No two silks are the same. All carry different qualities and features and should be treated accordingly. Get to know the different silk fabrics and knit qualities, their characteristics and how to best care for your Kokoon pieces to ensure it lives a long life in your wardrobe.

Habotai
Also known as "China silk", this is the lightest silk lining option used in all our blazers. The habotai silk has a soft, supple hand and a lustrous sheen.

Care: We recommend dry cleaning our blazers to keep the fit. Low iron inside out.

Peace Silk
Peace silk allows the moth to finish its natural lifecycle outside the cocoon, making it a more sustainable choice. Consequently, the silk fibres are more delicate, and as a result we have decided to introduce the quality in a blend of peace silk and silk to ensure longevity and the highest quality. Peace silk has a dense mat finish and a heavy and ultra-soft suede-like feel, making it ideal for autumn and winter.

Care: To maintain the suede-like feel, we recommend dry-cleaning peace silk.

Raw Silk
Raw silk is known for its tactile feel and beautiful mat finish. The naturally irregular surface provides it with a tenacious feel. Also, no treatments or chemicals are added in the process making raw silk more sustainable. Raw silk is a heavier and more dense type of silk, making it ideal for autumn and winter.

Care: If you choose to wash your raw silk pieces, be aware the softness vanishes. Steaming it will bring back the original softness. Make the softness stay by dry clean only.

Recycled Silk/Tencel
TENCEL™ is a trademarked lyocell fabric made from cellulose fibres or wood pulp that requires a lot less dye, energy, and water than cotton in production. It is a sustainable material known for its durability, absorption, and draping. The recycled silk/Tencel mix has a stiff, crisp and cotton-like feel.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Recycled Silk/Silk
As the name indicates, this quality is made from a recycled silk and silk mix - specifically, the waste silk from industrial weaving mills. This sustainable silk has a shiny and slightly translucent surface.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Sand washed Crepe De Chine Silk
Crepe de Chine is French for "Crepe of China". The sand washed crepe de chine silk is the most used of silks. With a matte, suede finish and chromatic depth, the fabric is lightweight and has excellent wrinkle resistance. Our sand washed silk is heavyweight for this type of silk.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out

Silk/Cashmere
Exceptionally velvety and warm to wear, the knitted silk/cashmere mix is made from the fleece of the Kashmir goat and the fibres of the silkworm. Silk prevents cashmere from stretching, while silk alone is prone to wrinkle. Cashmere doesn't lose its softness or luxurious feel, making it an ideal investment piece.

Care: Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Do not wring out. Dry flat. Steam iron inside out at the lowest setting, not touching the fabric directly. Remove the natural pilling with a pilling comb or electric lint shaver. This process makes the styles less likely to pile again. Learn more here.

Silk/Cashmere/Viscose/Linen
Used for our basic knit series, this knitted quality blends the best of the individual materials. The thin spun fabric holds its shape and works as an extra thin, ultra-soft layer under blazers.

Care: Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Do not wring out. Dry flat. Steam iron inside out at the lowest setting, not touching the fabric directly. Learn more here.

Silk/Cotton
A more casual alternative to 100% silks, the lightweight silk/cotton quality has a satin-like weave. At Kokoon, we use the quality differently by turning the fabric inside out; the matte surface is used on the exterior, whereas the shiny satin surface is used on the inside. The latter makes the material extremely comfortable to wear.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk/Cotton Jersey
This quality is our answer to the classic cotton jersey we all know from T-shirts. The silk mix gives it extra softness, and the heavy weave brings a touch of stretchy comfort to the otherwise nonelastic quality of the silk.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out

Silk Georgette
This is a lightweight, loosely woven sheer fabric made from highly twisted yarns. It has a grainy texture, a wonderfully heavy drape and a slight stretch.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk/Linen
The silk/linen quality combines the best of two worlds. With a mat finish, the fabric has excellent thermal conductivity, dries quickly and wrinkles less than 100% linen. The material has a nice flow and heavy drape, providing a relaxed look.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk/Linen/Viscose
A structured feel with natural nits best characterizes the blend consisting of silk/linen/viscose. Due to the uneven weave, the material has a slightly transparent look and ridged touch.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk Organza
Unlike many other types of silk, the sheer organza is quite stiff – due to the fibres being non-de-gummed before being woven into textiles. It is a loose plain weave fabric made with exceptionally fine threads. Organza maintains its shape and feel after washing and doesn't require starching.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk/Spandex
This luxurious stretch silk is made from a silk/spandex mix which is soft yet supple and drapes beautifully. With a heavy weave, the front side of the fabric has a shiny and lustrous finish making it ideal for eveningwear.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Low iron inside out.

Silk/Wool
Lightweight, breathable and resistance to wrinkles, the knitted silk/wool mix fibres feature the warmth characteristic of wool and the silk's softness. Not scratchy as pure wool, the silk/wool material is a medium-weight fabric that is durable and holds its shape.

Care: Hand wash in cold water (30°C). Do not wring out. Dry flat. Steam iron inside out at the lowest setting, not touching the fabric directly. Learn more here.
